The rolling savannah of the Masai Mara is the ancestral home of perhaps Africa’s most famous resident, the proud and elegant Masai, who stride the plains swathed in their scarlet cloaks and wielding their spears, as they have since the dawn of time.
Masters of an unforgiving landscape, it is they who named the place where our lodge now stands ‘Keekorok’, which means ‘the place of dark trees’. From a distance, the halo of dark-green trees hides the lodge from view. On arrival, this primeval indigenous forest provides a sanctuary where monkeys swing and scarlet-breasted turacos swoop. Linking the wilderness to the lodge is a timbered walkway, which winds through the forest to a hippo pool, where evening sundowners are served.
Getting there:
One of the easier Mara lodges to reach from Nairobi by road, Keekorok is well located, standing amid 80 acres of wilderness, atop a shallow rise, which allows for spectacularly long views across the rolling savannah. The Masai Mara is 270 miles from Nairobi (five hours by road). The lodge has its own all-weather airstrip, which is less than an hour from Nairobi by air.
The Rooms:
Built in 1962, and having hosted such dignitaries as Pope John Paul II, American diplomat, Henry Kissinger and former German Chancellor, Helmut Kohl, our rooms have been tailored to suit the broad-ranging tastes of our clientele. All are presented in relaxed yet chic safari style and feature authentic handicrafts and heritage pieces.
Choose from our charming stone and timber cabins, many of which offer interconnecting family suites, or our twelve exclusive cottages. For ultimate privacy, we’d also like to suggest Government House, which offers three generous ensuite bedrooms, its own kitchen, dining room and grounds.
The dinning expirience
We pride ourselves on the quality of our cuisine. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are presented in buffet-style and feature a wide range of both local and international choices. In typical safari style, we offer a ‘full English Breakfast’ as well as European options while our lunch and dinner menus will typically include meat, poultry, fish and vegetarian options.

Our sparkling pool deck offers a range of comfortable loungers in both sun and shade. Our brasserie-styled café service also offers a wide range of snacks, ices and cool drinks.
